- Fix: The app clock no longer drifts. The counter used to add one second per timer tick, but ticks fire late, so the clock ran slow and speaker updates visibly "caught it up." It now measures real elapsed time.
- Fix: Speaker updates steer the clock instead of overwriting it. Progress reports are rounded to whole seconds and arrive stale. Small differences gently nudge the app clock into agreement; only a real jump (seek, track change, stall) snaps the display instantly.
- Fix: Local file streaming reports honest positions. The Companion streamer reported how much audio it sent, about 2 seconds ahead of what you hear. It now subtracts that buffer, so the bar matches the audio.
- Fix: Every source benefits, not just local files. Sonos, DLNA, WiiM, Bluesound, MusicCast, Samsung, Chromecast, Roku, AirPlay, Sendspin, Squeezelite, Onkyo, and YouTube Music progress use the same smoothing logic.
- Fix: The timeline updates 4x per second instead of once, so the seek bar glides instead of stepping.
Version 5.7.8.0, released
- Fix: If the HEOS device Audio Hero connects to reports no players, the app no longer trusts that - it tries the next HEOS device and remembers the healthy one.
- Fix: The update checker now tracks its schedule by real clock time and remembers it between sessions, so sleep, hibernation, or a restart can no longer push the next check off course.
- Fix: After waking from sleep or hibernation, an overdue update check runs within about 90 seconds, even on laptops awake only a few minutes.
- Fix: If an update check fails (usually Wi-Fi not back yet after startup or wake), the app retries in 15 minutes instead of waiting hours or days.
- Fix: When a new version is out but the Store on the PC hasn't caught up yet, the app rechecks every 15 minutes until it can install, instead of waiting the full interval.
- Fix: Changing the update-check frequency in Settings could be silently ignored until the next restart.
- Fix: The Companion helper's update schedule also survives sleep and hibernation, and its "check daily at 3 AM" option fires at the right hour across daylight-saving changes.
- Fix: Smart plugs with an idle-off timer no longer stay powered on while the PC sleeps; the countdown now follows real clock time, in the app and the Companion.
- Fix: Update settings synced from another PC take effect immediately instead of only after a restart.
- Fix: If a Store install ever hangs, the app gives up after an hour and recovers, instead of being unable to update until restarted.
Version 5.7.7.0, released
- Fix: App startup is faster, device detection is faster.
- Fix: Multiple device discovery and device scan refresh bug fixes.
- Fix: HEOS devices could vanish from the app and never come back. If the app failed to reconnect to the last speaker you used, it gave up without ever scanning the network, and the settings switch that would have fixed it was buried in a panel you couldn't reach.
- Fix: The app no longer waits for a full network scan every time it starts. Your devices appear instantly and are ready to click, with the scan running silently behind the scenes (roughly 3 seconds to connected instead of over a minute).
- Fix: Speakers no longer grey out and pulse while the app looks for them at startup. That effect now only appears during a scan you start yourself.
- Fix: Removed four confusing discovery on/off settings that could quietly leave the app unable to find anything. Scanning, remembering devices, and reconnecting now just always happen. Old leftover settings entries are cleaned out of the settings file automatically, once.
- Fix: Clicking Rescan while the hidden startup scan was still running made the button spinner spin forever. The two scans now take turns instead of fighting each other.
- Fix: Local playback bug fixes.
Version 5.7.6.0, released
- Fix: Track length is now detected correctly for long mixes, so end-of-track handling stays accurate.
- Fix: Resume reliably returns to your saved spot, whether after an app update or a long pause.
Version 5.7.5.0, released
- Fix: pressing Stop during the last few seconds of a song no longer causes the next song to start playing anyway.
- Fix: when a song finishes but the speaker's idea of the song's length doesn't quite match the actual audio, the queue now moves on to the next song instead of getting stuck at the end of the track.
- Fix: the app now trusts the music file itself for the song length instead of the speaker's estimate, which makes end-of-song detection more reliable.
- Fix: playing a folder now uses the same track order as Windows Explorer, so "Track 2" plays before "Track 10" instead of after it.
- Fix: picking files for a device that can't stream them now shows a message instead of silently doing nothing.
Version 5.7.4.0, released
- Fix: After waking from sleep, the app now keeps trying to reach your HEOS gear for a few minutes instead of giving up after one minute.
- Fix: If HEOS still isn't back after that, the regular background device scan now reconnects it automatically instead of leaving it missing until a restart.
- Fix: Failed reconnect attempts are now written to the diagnostics log, so bug reports show what went wrong instead of nothing.
- Fix: The app now remembers its HEOS speaker separately from other device types, so connecting a Chromecast can no longer make it dial the wrong device at startup.
Version 5.7.3.0, released
- Feature: Volume presets can now be stored per-device (enabled by default).
- Feature: Misc UI improvements.
- Many bug fixes.
Version 5.7.2.0, released
- Feature: Limit max volume setting now unique to each player / device - optional in settings global or per device.
- Feature: Companion app v2.3.0 can now handle smart device switching (in case AH is not running).
- Multiple bug fixes.
Version 5.6.5.0, released
- Fix: Time bar smoothing, no more 5 second jumps
Version 5.6.4.0, released
- Grouping & broadcast
- Same-brand standalone speakers can sync natively during broadcasts
- Broadcast keeps its original primary as the selection changes
- Start, Apply and Stop are serialized; rapid double-clicks ignored
- Failed or partial HEOS/Sonos group changes roll back cleanly
- Offline targets skipped without orphaning active streams
- Hybrid mode never rewrites existing groups or bonded sets
- HEOS stereo pairs protected from accidental Ungroup; uncheck-all now ungroups HEOS
- Clearer busy state and recovery status during group operations
- Sonos
- Live group-topology monitoring; refreshes when groups change externally
- Coordinator routing refreshes after topology changes
- Companion
- Supports multiple authenticated, owner-scoped controllers
- Playback
- Handing control to the HEOS app releases the speaker at once; no more playing on its own
- Late "stopped" signals after a track ends are ignored, not restarted
- Next local track starts reliably even if the speaker is slow to report a finished song
- Duplicate tracks skipped when adding to the queue
- Queue & UI
- Queued tracks now show in Full View, not just Compact View
- Adding files while playing asks to append or replace the queue
- Minimize-to-tray icon updated; mousewheel scroll in scheduled automations; general UI fixes
Version 5.6.3.0, released
- Feature: Play different sources to different speakers at once from one PC (YouTube Music in the kitchen, radio in the office) instead of one stream stopping the other
- Feature: Two YouTube Music songs can play to two speakers from the same PC, each with its own player window
- Feature: Starting a new source only stops the stream on the speaker you're playing to; others keep playing
- Feature: Select a speaker in the sidebar to see and control what it's playing (song info, seek bar, play/pause, skip, thumbs, Stop)
- Feature: After reopening Audio Hero, all streams still on the Companion are picked back up (YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music), not just one
- Feature: Each PC announces a stable ID so the Companion can tell it apart from other household PCs
- Fix: Much faster app shutdown and close
- Fix: Stopping a stream now stops the speaker it's really playing to (Sonos, Chromecast and other non-HEOS included) even when another is selected, and never an unrelated speaker if that one left the network
- Fix: Playing several local files at once no longer stops after the first song
- Fix: Audio Hero releases the speaker the moment you take over from the HEOS app, so it won't fight for control or start playing on its own later; stale "stopped" signals and device timing no longer cut a track short
- Fix: Older Audio Hero versions no longer get duplicate updates, and a brief connection hiccup no longer downgrades a PC to "anonymous"
Version 5.6.2.0, released
- Fix: HEOS device grouping works reliably when HEOS devices selected
- Fix: Stop/start music actions behave correctly now when using Audio Hero companion app (formerly known as streaming helper)
- Fix: When using companion app, stop/start music actions survive Audio Hero app restart
- Fix: Chromecast devices can now handle dead connections
- Fix: Regrouping a Sonos speaker that was following another group no longer breaks up that other group or skips adding the speakers you checked
- Fix: "Match Volume" can no longer be undone by a leftover slider adjustment still in flight; the same guard applies at disconnect
- Fix: Dragging a device-type group header while some ecosystem is offline no longer forgets the saved position of the offline group
- Fix: Same protection when a header drag is cancelled or a group is sent to top/bottom
- Fix: Newer device types (Universal, Sendspin, kiosks) can no longer be mislabeled with a HEOS stereo-pair name
- Fix: Checkboxes you've ticked in the group member picker no longer reset if a device appears or disappears before you press Create
- Fix: Overlapping group-list refreshes (during event bursts) now run one at a time
- Fix: Fired volume-adjustment timers are now cleaned up instead of lingering until disconnect
- Feature: Unchecking all members and applying now ungroups HEOS speakers, matching how Sonos already worked
- Feature: Audio Hero Companion 2.0.0 released - this replaces the streaming helper
Version 5.6.1.0, released
- Fix: Smart plug device associations are now correct
- Fix: Now playing info displays at app start for previously selected device
- Fix: Grouping bugs fixed where devices weren't always displayed and grouping device ecosystem updated
- Fix: Automations now work for all HEOS device types
- Fix: Automations now only show available actions for selected device
- Feature: Text filter added to smart (plug) device search
Version 5.6.0.0, released
- Faster startup and smarter device loading:
- Your saved devices appear instantly from cache, no waiting. Unverified ones show greyed and gently pulsing while the app quietly re-checks them in the background.
- Devices that truly left your network are removed only after several failed checks over a few minutes, so a single hiccup never makes a speaker vanish.
- No more up-to-5s Store license wait or 20s rescan wiping your list at launch. A DHCP address change no longer shows a device twice, and auto-reconnects give up after 3.5s.
- Chromecasts no longer flicker off the list during startup.
- Cloud sync improvements:
- Volume button preference, receiver zone names, multi-zone power, and main window size/maximized state now sync across PCs.
- Room assignments, grouping, and device-detail display are now opt-in under "Choose what to sync".
- Settings from before sync existed now carry to a new PC. Fixes for lost last-second changes, all-day PCs missing updates (now checks every 15 min), older versions overwriting newer cloud data, corrupted data, and rare concurrent-save failures.
- Also: reorganized Settings with a streaming helper download link, and streaming helper v1.2.2 with many improvements.
Version 5.5.2.0, released
- Feature: Streaming helper starting with v1.2.0 (current) now optionally auto-updates itself
- Feature: Automations now feature dates - think of an outdoor speaker system where you only want music playing during summer days
- Feature: New device indicator yellow for when devices are in standby (vs previous green-on/red-off/grey-unknown)
- Feature: Additional device control panel items added for Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, and Sonos devices - pulled directly from mfg spec
- Feature: Device control panel tooltips added to explain device features
Version 5.5.1.0, released
- Fix: Reopening the app while music plays on your helper PC: the app no longer wastes time searching the internet for song details when no song is actually playing yet
- Fix: Onkyo power button - turning the receiver on no longer risks the app's power switch flicking itself back to "off" just because the receiver was slow to answer while waking up
- Fix: Owning two+ Onkyo receivers and clicking from one receiver to another now shows the correct music services for that unit, instead of leftover ones from the first
- Fix: Automations auto-exit Audio Hero improvements & note clarifying behavior
- Fix: Onkyo device playing status now shows correctly
- Fix: Automations power-on no longer turns the receiver off when its state is unknown; it now checks first and moves toward the state you asked for
- Fix: Automations power-off (and the sleep timer) no longer risks turning a device on
- Fix: Power automations on multi-zone receivers now switch power directly instead of opening an on-screen popup nobody can click
- Fix: Rapid automation edits (like deleting one and adding another) no longer race and erase a schedule; changes are processed one at a time, newest wins
- Fix: Editing an automation now keeps your original device selected, even if the device is offline or its network address changed
- Fix: When the exact device can't be found, an automation now does nothing and logs it instead of falling back to any speaker and hitting the wrong room
- Fix: Scheduled automations now start the app completely invisibly instead of showing the window for about 20 seconds
- Fix: Opening the app yourself just as an automation fires no longer makes it mistake your session for an automation run and hide or close itself
- Fix: Squeezelite devices now use the correct playback route and start reliably
- Fix: Device's volume slider minimum in automations is now 1 instead of a misleading 0, matching what actually plays
- Fix: The "delete automation?" confirmation now appears on the window you're using instead of hiding behind others
- Fix: Settings files with bogus automation IDs are now rejected instead of breaking the Windows task setup.
- Fix: The app no longer stacks up endless repeat checks when it polls speakers that are turned off, which was quietly wasting network and memory the longer the app ran
- Fix: One misbehaving device or a failed settings save during startup can no longer crash the whole app - errors are now logged and the app carries on
- Fix: If a device's network address changed since last time (common after a router reboot), the app now tries the next known device instead of giving up on the first stale address
- Fix: Turning off HEOS support no longer silently blocks connecting to Snapcast, Squeezelite, or Dashie Kiosk devices - each now respects its own on/off switch
- Fix: Dashie Kiosk devices now connect automatically when found, like every other device type, instead of waiting for a manual click
- Fix: Startup device discovery now checks all device types at the same time instead of one after another, so it finishes in a few seconds instead of 20 or more
- Fix: Remembered devices whose support toggle is switched off no longer show up in the list looking like dead devices that refuse to connect
- Fix: A slow Microsoft Store license check can no longer hold up device discovery at launch - the app waits at most 5 seconds and moves on
- Fix: Changing the streaming helper's PIN now takes effect immediately - before, if a PC was connected when you changed it, the helper could quietly keep accepting the old PIN until you rebooted it
- Fix: One bad connection attempt could permanently stop the helper from accepting new connections (while still showing up in the device list); it now shrugs those off and keeps listening
- Fix: If the controlling PC crashed (over the streaming helper), slept, or lost Wi-Fi, the helper could stay stuck "connected" to it forever and refuse new connections - it now notices a dead connection within about 30 seconds and frees itself up
- Fix: The streaming helper now keeps up with network changes - before, if the helper PC got a new IP address (router reboot, Wi-Fi switch), it kept advertising the old dead address until restarted
- Fix: On the streaming helper, someone on your network could rapid-fire guess all 10,000 possible PINs in minutes - wrong guesses are now slowed down enough to make that impractical
- Fix: Launching the streaming helper when it's already running now shows an "already running" message instead of silently doing nothing
- Fix: Closed a streaming helper timing bug where stopping one stream at the exact moment another started could kill the new stream
- Fix: Reopening a streaming helper remote sign-in screen no longer leaks the hidden browser window from the previous attempt
- Fix: Clicks in the streaming helper's remote-viewing window now always land exactly where you click, even if the hidden player window sized itself differently than expected
- Fix: Small streaming helper housekeeping bug where the settings window piled up duplicate event handlers each time it was opened
- Fix: Device groups now sort reliably when dragging & dropping
Version 5.5.0.0, released
- Fix: Windows Firewall "allow access" prompt that kept reappearing on first run and after each update; Audio Hero now sets up its network permission automatically
- Fix: Onkyo devices now show sources even when powered off
- Feature: "Streaming helper" service introduction: Offload YouTube Music, Apple Music, Spotify and other streaming services to a helper PC on your network, so it keeps playing even when your main PC sleeps or Audio Hero is closed. The reason for doing this is because Audio Hero hosts a mini streaming server whenever you play these services and requires AH to remain open. This helper service changes that.
